Reader opinion The new light traffic bridge would delight those living in Kallio in particular

The bridge connection of light traffic to Siltasaari would reduce the congestion on Pitkänsilla.

Helsinki Living in Siltasaari and crossing Pitkänsilla daily, it is difficult to consider the proposed new light traffic bridge connection between Kaisaniemi and Siltasaarenkärki unnecessary. The long bridge is already congested for pedestrians and cyclists. The worst node is the southern end of the bridge, where the main light traffic routes intersect in the east-west and north-south directions.

If light traffic increases at all, the bridge of the bridge ear will at times become unbearable. The new bridge would take much of this traffic on looser routes. In addition to the people of Siltasaari, the new fairway would delight rock residents in particular.

The congestion in the bridge at Unioninkatu would also be alleviated if a lightweight fairway could be built under the Pitkänsilla for pedestrians in the east-west direction in the same way as under the Hämeensilla in Tampere.

It would be worthwhile to add light traffic monitoring to the tasks of traffic counters who often work near the Kaisaniemi box office, if this is not already the case. The results would provide important information as a basis for the development of light traffic in the region.

The Hakaniemi bridge renovation may have increased the congestion of the long bridge. Once completed, the situation at Pitkälläsilla will be a little easier. The popular paths of winter across the bay bring greater joy and benefit to pedestrians in Kaisaniemi, Kallio and Siltasaari, only a new bridge brings the whole year round.
