Reader opinion Entrepreneurs can help Ukraine

In this exceptional situation, the state should allow companies to make donations to war-torn Ukraine tax-free.

Peace of mind In Finland, we are used to living in a free and secure Europe, where disagreements and contradictions can be resolved at the negotiating tables and agreements allow us to maintain peace between us. Unfortunately, this illusion is now broken.

No one should close their eyes to this situation. We must use all our means to alleviate the situation. We each have our own channels of influence through which we can support the Russians to rise up against their leader.

The consumer may not support the Russian economy in his purchasing decisions. The citizen can support Ukrainians through aid organizations, take part in demonstrations or influence politicians.

In a free Finland, an entrepreneur can choose his or her partner and determine his or her contract. Indeed, many companies have already restricted cooperation and terminated agreements to cut off cash flows to Russia.

Companies also need to help the Ukrainians directly, and we certainly cannot give too much support now. In this exceptional situation, the state should allow companies to make donations to war-torn Ukraine tax-free. Nowadays, a company can donate EUR 850 per year / donor to a charitable purpose, this limit should now be removed so that these donations reach their full potential.

Sanctions on Russia must be as severe as possible. The whole world must unite to show that what is happening is wrong. These are crimes, and they must also have consequences. This message must be clear, and the message must be heard as loudly as possible from each of us.

The issue of Ukraine is a matter for all of us.
