Reader opinion Did health promotion be forgotten in the SOTE reform?

With the reform, the municipalities will lose their financial incentive to promote everyday sports.

Municipalities and the business, transport and environment centers maintain and build Finland’s road and street networks. Major road network reforms will go through the Fairway Agency. In addition, the municipalities maintain numerous sports venues.

Light traffic lanes in particular, as well as their maintenance and safety, play an important role in making people’s choices in everyday life. Do you go by bike, on foot, in public or in your own car? This choice will have a surprisingly large impact on human health and air quality in urban centers.

Increasing daily exercise has been studied to reduce the need for social services.

Last winter’s choices went in the wrong direction, at least in the metropolitan area, when light traffic lane maintainers simply handed over the challenging winter and many were forced to go to work with that polluting option.

Increasing daily exercise has been studied to reduce the need for social services. Everyday exercise would also reduce dependence on fossil fuels imported from less democratic states.

The Sote reform removes the care of social and health services from municipalities. With the reform, the municipalities will therefore lose the financial incentive to promote everyday sports. In the future, it will be the same for the municipalities, whether people move or not, when medical care is in the hands and purses of others. Nor have I seen a debate on how sports clubs and organizations that promote physical activity and health are taken into account in the SOTE reform. They also have a big impact on public health.
