Reader opinion An Olympic park should be built to replace the stadium’s poor parking lot

Real estate investors ’commercial and office buildings should have nothing to do with the Olympic Stadium and Central Park next door.

Like Tero Hakola in his column (HS 14.4.) Wrote, the poor parking lots in front of the main entrance to the Olympic Stadium are not very comfortable environment at the moment. The tent camps built in connection with various events, with their barracks, riot barriers and field restaurants, as well as racing markets full of advertisers, will not improve the situation either.

A real Olympic park would be obtained by planting a square full of trees and making it a real park. It doesn’t even need any trick tracks, exercise equipment or beer terraces. There are already them around Töölönlahti.

As for the north side of the stadium, the environment will not improve with the construction of the Gardenia building complexes, as the ice rink will be built underground.

The problem, on the other hand, is the huge above-ground ten-storey building masses with hotels, apartments and business premises that the city has zoned in the middle of the Ball Field and the Zoo Sports Park. Such real estate investors ’commercial and office buildings should have nothing to do with the Olympic Stadium and Central Park next door.

The spacious landscape of the football fields of the Ball Field has also been ruined by a huge gray bubble hall, and apparently HJK is also adding new fixed hall buildings to the field area. The ball field with its green fields should be part of the open landscape of the stadium’s cultural and historical environment.
