The 4 pre-candidates for the presidency seek to get closer to the electorate during the celebration of the “Independence of Bahia”
Candidates for the Presidency of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (EN), Ciro Gomes (PDT) and Simone Tebet (MDB) were this Saturday (2.Jul.2022) in Salvador (BA) for the celebration of the Independence of Bahia. It is an important date for the 4th largest electoral college in the country, which has 11 million voters.

Bolsonaro promises cheaper fuel
The president did not participate in the city’s civic procession and went straight to a motorcycle with supporters. He stated that Brazil will soon have “one of the cheapest fuels in the world” and again criticized governors of the Northeast for their resistance to the reduction of ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services).

Bolsonaro met with his supporters 8 km from the procession site and 6 km from Fonte Nova, where Lula has an event scheduled with his voters.
Lula: “it is not a military parade”
The former president took the civic walk alongside the governor of Bahia, Rui Costa (PT), the vice-presidential candidate, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and his wife, Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja.
He contrasted the procession with the traditional parades of the armed forces on September 7, after Brazil’s independence. “It’s not a military parade, it’s a people’s parade. That is what independence means.”said the PT.

After the walk, Lula went to an event at the Fonte Nova Arena with his supporters. The PT spoke for about half an hour. At her husband’s request, Janja stayed by her side most of the time, handing her the pages of the speech.
Lula compared the Bolsonaro government’s package of goodies to ice cream: “suck it, it’s over”. The PT urged voters to accept the benefits but not vote for Bolsonaro in October.
The former president also said it was necessary “defend Petrobras, Eletrobras and Correios” and condemned mining on indigenous lands – a measure defended by the current president.

Cyrus extols independence
The pedestrian participated in the walk and stated that the so-called Independence of Bahia was necessary to form the country’s autonomy. Then he stated that Brazil “is being sold abroad again” because of the “greed of Brazilian barons allied to foreign barons”.

Tebet: democracy and civility
The senator shared photos of her participation in the walk in stories yours Instagram. He also published videos and images hugging Ciro Gomes.
Tebet declared that “opponent is not enemy” and that the country “needs tolerance and respect”.
INDEPENDENCE OF BAHIA
The holiday celebrated in Bahia marks events that took place at dawn on July 2, 1823, when the city of Salvador dawned almost deserted, as the Portuguese army had definitively left the then province of Bahia. It was the official end of the 17-month war (from February 1822 to July 1823) between troops from Portugal and Brazil. This Brazilian victory consolidated the political separation of Brazil from Portugal.
