Up to 65 euros for six months; to that, according to the analysis of Facile.it, could amount to lack of savings average for motorcyclists who, up to now, they suspended the third party liability policy in the months of non-use. The European Parliament recently approved a directive according to which all vehicles must always have one active insurance coverage, even if not used and kept in a private area. The rule would therefore also eliminate the possibility, very common among the motorcyclists, from suspend the motorbike liability policy during the winter months.
Italian law today provides the insurance obligation only for vehicles that circulate on the road or are stopped in public areas, while giving the possibility to insurance companies to offer customers the option to suspend the insurance for a limited period of time as long as the vehicle remains kept inside of a private area. The directive, which will have to be approved by European Council and then ratified within two years by the Italian State, it will no longer allow to temporarily block the RC and thus extend the validity of the policy for a period of days equal to those of suspension. What are the consequences for the insured? To calculate the economic impact of the new directive on pockets of bikers Italians, Facile.it carried out some simulations taking into consideration that, in the last year, the average premium * RC moto was equal to 194.62 euros.
Starting from this value, the comparator estimated that today, on average, those who suspend the policy for just one month obtain an economic advantage of about 15 euros; those who block the validity for a longer period, three months for example, have it for about 39 euros that they just become less than 65 EUR if the suspension lasts up to one semester. “If the rule were to come into force, there would be an inevitable increase in the expense to be borne by motorcyclists ” explains Andrea Ghizzoni, Managing Director Insurance Facile.it. “Once again, therefore, carefully comparing the different offers on the market to find the one that best suits your needs would be the best way to save. It would also be desirable “- concludes Ghizzoni – “that the companies intervene with ad hoc actions, perhaps offering dedicated coverage that takes into account actual use of the vehicles “. Facile.it then analyzed the impact of the directive at the regional level. Assuming 6 months of policy suspension, the most affected motorcyclists would be those residing in Campania; for them, giving up the insurance freeze would, on average, cause almost an economic damage 107 euros. Centaurs resident in the Lazio, where the ban on suspension “would cost”, on average, 75 euros, while for those residing in Calabria, third place in the standings, the lack of savings would come to 69 euros.
