RASPUTIN THE PATRIOT: A POLITICAL THRILLER IN HEART DISEASE WITH DRAWINGS BY JUNJI ITO
Based on a true story, coming in late January with the first volume
The master of Japanese horror Junji ito, known for works of the caliber of UZUMAKI – SPIRAL And GYO – SMELL OF DEATH, but also of numerous collections of short stories – such as the JUNJI ITO BEST OF BEST – SHORT STORIES COLLECTION – returns to Italy with a new work in three volumes, scripted by the famous Takashi Nagasaki (KING OF EDEN).
RASPUTIN THE PATRIOT, this is the title of the manga, is a breathtaking political thriller based on the true story of Masaru Sato, a former Japanese diplomat who, at the time he was stationed in Russia, was accused of selling state secrets. The manga is inspired by his courageous tug-of-war with the prosecutor who, determined to condemn him by all means, will shed light on some key events and figures that have determined the outcome of this story.
Between the pages of the work we will know the story of “The Rasputin of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs” – the diplomat Yuki Mamoru – or the only one able to forge relations with the leaders of the Soviet Union, as well as one of those who spend the most for the return of the northern islands. Being involved in a “national investigation”, he is arrested by the Special Investigation Department of the Tokyo prosecutor’s office. But with what accusation?
A compelling story with claustrophobic atmospheres and grotesque implications, expertly illustrated by the brilliant Junji Ito and scripted by the eminence gray of manga, Takashi Nagasaki, editor and co-author of the master Naoki Urusawa.
RASPUTIN THE PATRIOT will enrich the Umami necklace – which already includes noteworthy works such as PHANTOM STALKER WOMAN And THE BOX MAN – And the first volume will be available from January 26th.

Born in Gifu in 1963, Junji Ito he leaves the profession of dental technician to devote himself full time to comics after winning the “Kazuo Umezz” award in 1987. Numerous animated and live-action films have been drawn from his works, often of which Ito himself takes care of the screenplay. His stroke is, at the same time, realistic and caricatured, as brutal and disturbing as it is elegant and composed. Its main themes are obsessive-compulsive disorders, atavistic fears, the fascination of self-destruction and the deformation of the body (understood not so much as a metaphor of the social corpus as as a physical representation of the subconscious).
Takashi Nagasaki is an editor, screenwriter and manga author.
Among his works Kijou no Kowloon (2000), Shin Kijou no Kowloon (2005), Dias Police (2006), Rasputin the patriot (2010), Kurokochi (2012), Abracadabra – Ryouki Hanzai Tokusoushitsu (2014), King of Eden (2014), Keibuho Daimajin (2019).
