“Today we have more weapons against haemophilia. It has now been understood that movement, good musculature, harmonized musculoskeletal support are of support to the entire population, but especially to people with haemophilia”. Chiara Biasoli, head of the Romagna Haemophilia Center at the Romagna company in Cesena and member of the Italian Association of Haemophilia Centers – Aice, said this on the occasion of the presentation, today in Milan, of the ‘Athletes with an A’ project launched by Sobi Italia: a path that opens the doors of athletics to people with hemophilia aged 12 to 35 through a traveling campus that will stop in three Italian cities.
Hemophilia is a rare disease of genetic origin linked to blood clotting. “Every person has their own personal history and everyone responds differently to drugs and traumatic events – explains the expert – Thanks to therapeutic innovation, these people have the possibility of personalized therapy that makes their lives as normal as possible , which means carrying out even just daily movements such as being able to get up, get dressed or have a family and children”.
Compared to the past, the lifespan of people with haemophilia corresponds to that of the rest of the population: “When we didn’t have the possibility of treatment, joint problems occurred early and the disability was significant – concludes Biasoli – Today, avoiding problems with joints, we have reduced disability to almost zero.”
