The BenVivere report aims to identify the most livable cities in Italy. The former leader loses many places, the south is catching up.
Munich – Many people associate a vacation in Italy with summer weather and the perfect pizza and pasta dishes. This year’s BenVivere report aims to show which Italian provinces have the highest quality of life.
BenVivere report 2024 published: Former leader slips
The BenVivere Report is carried out by “Federcasse”, researchers from Next and the newspaper Avvenire published. The rankings have been published for several years. Last year, the South Tyrolean state capital of Bolzano was able to fight its way to first place, as it did in 2022, receiving full points with 1000 points. Cities like Milan and Bologna followed behind. The strong divide between the central north and southern Italy was particularly noticeable.
However, Bolzano suffered a major setback in this year’s ranking. After many years at the top, the South Tyrolean state capital slipped to tenth place. The points of legality and security as well as demographics and family were particularly critically punished in these years. The province of Pordenone took first place this year. Siena is in second place, Milan came third. In another ranking of the happiest countries in the world, Italy is only in 41st place.
This is what the BenVivere report is made up of – the South is catching up
Four provinces in Italy landed in the top 10 of the rankings after performing significantly worse last year. These include Trieste, Rimini, Udine and Parma. As in previous years, the provinces in northern and central Italy will dominate in 2024. Slowly but surely, provinces from the south are catching up and improving their positions in the ranking – but some of them, like Crotone and Reggio Calabria, still occupy the lower places.
These are the most livable provinces in Italy:
- Pordedone
- Siena
- Milan
- Trieste
- Florence
- Trent
- Rimini
- Udine
- Parma
- Bolzano
However, some provinces were extremely pleased with the improvement in the rankings. The mayor of Benevento, Clemente, Mastella reported: “The quality of life is improving in Benevento and the Sannio. We gained a whopping 24 places,” he wrote about the southern province. The BenVivere report takes population well-being into account in the rankings. This includes the areas of demography, security, economy and social inclusion. (approx)
