Revolution in the name of continuity. The fifth generation of Range Rover it presents itself as full of novelties, above all technological but still confirms the style and elegance that have distinguished it up to now. Land Rover’s premium SUV is back on the road with its minimalist and refined look that does not differ much from current styles, confirming the strengths that have made it famous. Already configurable, the new Range Rover has a price list which starts at 124,300 euros. The range will be enriched by the SV version in the course of 2022.
The new Range Rover is the first model to use Land Rover’s new Modular Longitudinal Architecture floor. The MLA-Flex structure can accommodate internal combustion, plug-in hybrid and 100% electric engines. It represents the next step in Land Rover’s simplified architecture strategy to offer greater flexibility in terms of engines and set new quality standards. The great flexibility of this architecture also allows different interior configurations to be offered, with the fifth generation Range Rover being available with four, five or seven seats with standard and long wheelbase. The MLA will also allow the arrival on the road of an all-electric Range Rover, the first fully electric Land Rover, in line with the Reimagine strategy, starting in 2024.
It measures 505 cm in length (which becomes 525 cm in the long wheelbase version), 220 in width, 187 in height, with a wheelbase of 299 cm (319 cm in the long wheelbase version). The set-ups will initially be three: SE, HSE, Autobiography. These, for the first year of production, will also be joined by a First Edition based on the Autobiography trim with some additional specifications such as the Sunset Gold Satin paint. Inside the cockpit the display of the infotainment system stands out, usable through a 13.1-inch curved screen based on the Pivi Pro system that fits perfectly with the elegant 13.7-inch semi-floating dashboard, which features a new high-definition graphics based on a three-panel layout that intuitively reflects the design of the multimedia system’s home screen. For the first time in a Land Rover, the center display will provide tactile feedback when customers touch and press the screen. By providing the driver with firm confirmation without the need to look at the screen, the system reduces the need to take their eyes off the road, improving safety. The new Range Rover is available with a new entertainment system for the second row of seats, with adjustable 11.4-inch HD touchscreens mounted to the rear of the front seat backrests. They can be operated independently and support connecting most devices with an HDMI port, while using the Wi-Fi hotspot functionality means rear seat passengers can enjoy smart TV entertainment on the go . The eight-inch touchscreen controller for the rear seats10 mounted in the center armrest of the Executive Class rear seats offers quick and intuitive control of the perfect seating position. New Range Rover integrates Amazon Alexa voice commands and is always compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Musical entertainment based on the 1600W Meridian Signature sound system, which also contributes to the quietness of the cabin with additional 20W speakers located in the four main headrests. Always generous the load capacity, which ranges from 725 liters (1,841 with the seats folded down) of the five-seater version, to 713 liters (up to 2601 liters with the seats folded down).
The new Range Rover delivers a wide range of electrified thrusters, starting with the Extended Range plug-in hybrids, P440e and P510e, and the more recent P360 and P400 Ingenium petrol mild-hybrids (MHEV) to which the D250, D300 and D350 diesels are also added. A powerful new petrol-driven flagship, the P530 Twin Turbo V8, offers greater refinement and performance and is 17% more efficient than the previous Range Rover V8. The new PHEV Extended Range powertrains combine the inherent refinement of Land Rover’s 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 38.2 kWh lithium-ion battery – 31.8 kWh useful capacity – and an electric motor 105 kW integrated with the transmission. Together, the powertrain delivers up to 100km of near-silent purely electric driving. With instant electric torque, the new P510e accelerates from 0-100km / h in 5.6 seconds. All six-cylinder diesel engines feature state-of-the-art 48-volt MHEV technology to recover energy during deceleration and braking and save fuel. An integrated belt driven generator / starter ensures more responsive and refined operation of the stop / start system and assists the engine during acceleration.
The fifth generation of the Land Rover SUV is equipped with integral steering for effortless driving with increased stability at high speeds and improved maneuverability at low speeds, ensuring it is comfortable on both open roads and narrow urban roads. The electrically operated rear axle provides up to seven degrees of steering angle and, at low speeds, lags behind the front wheels, giving the New Range Rover a turning circle of less than 11m – less than that of any Land Rover. At higher speeds, the rear axle turns in phase with the front wheels for greater stability and comfort.
The New Range Rover is also the first Land Rover to feature Dynamic Response Pro. The new 48-volt active electronic roll control system is faster and more efficient than a hydraulic system, with up to 1,400 Nm of torque being transmitted to the anti-roll bars, to keep body movements under control. The air suspension completely independent, they isolate the passenger compartment from surface imperfections more effectively than ever, offering a feeling of calm and serenity at all times. The system combines the volumes – at the top of the sector – of the pneumatic springs with the double valve shock absorbers, all managed by the Adaptive Dynamics control software, developed in-house. Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (iAWD) transmission is controlled by Land Rover’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) system, which monitors grip levels and driver inputs 100 times per second to predictively distribute torque between the front axles and rear and rear axle for optimum traction on and off-road. Each Range Rover also features an active locking rear differential. In this way, the Terrain Response 2 systems enable a personalized driving experience.
