Rams vs Bengals
:
These are the key players that matter in the Super Bowl
Inglewood Two teams compete in the Super Bowl: the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. However, situations are often decided by the quality of individual professionals – here are candidates for a role at the crucial moment of the game.
The Super Bowl is the occasion for the big stories in US sports. Most of the time, the quarterbacks take center stage, with the MVP award usually going to the winning team’s playmaker. But when the Los Angeles Rams meet the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night (12:30 a.m. / ProSieben and Dazn), there are a few candidates on the field who could end up being the face of the game.
Joe Burrow: The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback is the cornerstone of his team’s unexpectedly successful season so far. Burrow is only playing his second NFL season and has only survived a cruciate ligament rupture. He’s almost always calm, extraordinarily talented and was very likely the reason for a Bengals win over the Rams.
Matthew Stafford: Given his position, the Rams playmaker is also a natural candidate to play a pivotal role in his team’s success. After 12 years with the Detroit Lions without a win in the playoffs, Stafford proved in his first season with the Rams that he could handle the pressure of a knockout game and lead a team. If he avoids bad passes, which he allows himself from time to time, the Rams are difficult to beat – and he is probably a glorious winner.
Aaron Donald: For many experts, the Los Angeles Rams defender is the most important and best player in the favorite’s squad. Donald is a force of nature: Fast, strong, agile, and a constant threat to any quarterback whose body he’s almost always after. Should the 30-year-old defensive tackle get back to normal, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will have a bad day at work — and Donald will have a big share in finally lifting the one trophy he’s missing in the NFL.
Ja’Marr Chase: Nice story: Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow were already in a team at college – now they just gamble with the pros and show how outstanding they harmonize with each other. Chase was voted the best league freshman on offense on Thursday, thanks to his 13 touchdowns so far. If he has a day like in the main round in the win against the Kansas City Chiefs with eleven caught passes over 266 yards and three touchdowns – he would crown his debut season in the NFL with an even more important title.
From Miller: Von Miller is 32 and a veteran NFL pro, but this season is brand new for him. “When I went to sleep I was a Bronco, when I woke up I was a Ram,” he said of his unexpected mid-season move to Los Angeles. But the defenseman knows how to win a Super Bowl: When the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50, he did so well that he – and not quarterback Peyton Manning – was voted MVP of the game.
Odell Beckham Jr.: Like Von Miller, “OBJ” only came to Los Angeles later in the season and was considered worn out by then. With the New York Giants, he had attracted attention with incredible catches and had become a superstar in the league, but things were not going well with the Cleveland Browns. Especially in the playoffs, number three in the Rams and a good friend of NBA star LeBron James showed what he’s still capable of – one, two, three touchdowns in the Super Bowl? Anything is possible for the 29-year-old.
Cooper Kup: Less bling-bling than OBJ, a name not as resonant as many other pass recipients – and yet Kupp is the greatest weapon in the Rams’ attacking game. Voted best offensive player of the season, the receiver has an incredibly high football IQ and gained a lot of attention in the USA when he delivered an analysis in a TV interview that probably not even most NFL professionals would have understood – so quickly and the comment was peppered with so many technical terms. But the most important thing: Kupp can catch balls. Very well and very often.
Evan McPherson: McPherson is one of the youngest on a young team, but at 22, he’s also one of the most important players on the Cincinnati Bengals roster. His field goals brought the team through the playoffs, twelve out of twelve attempts went in. McPherson has an unshakable confidence in his abilities – should the Bengals end up just a field goal away from beating the Rams, they can open the champagne with a clear conscience before McPherson kicks the ball.
