Few cars in the world have been able to mark an era in rallying exactly as it did Lancia Delta Integrale, capable of winning well eight world titles won between 1988 and 1992. Specifically, the Turin manufacturer obtained five manufacturers’ championships and three drivers, the latter signed by the Finnish Juha Kankkunen and the Venetian Miki Biason. Thirty years after those memorable triumphs, the Deltona is ready to make its return to the world of competitions and, once again, to rallies, albeit in a different way.
In 2022, in fact, it will make its debut in World Rallycross, reserved for electric motor cars only, with the Lancia Delta Evo-e, who will challenge the stopwatch with the colors of the French team GCK Motorsport. Adapting to the new technical regulation that will be introduced on the occasion of the next season, the car will have the engine developed by the Austrian company Kreisel Electric, with a powertrain that will allow it to release a maximum power of 500 kW, such as to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 1.8 seconds.
In addition to this, GCK Motorsport will also fall into this category after a year of absence, with the president and former driver Guerlain Chicherit who commented on this return with one of the most iconic cars ever: “We chose the Lancia Delta Integrale – explained in the official statement – because it is a vehicle that made everyone dream. It is the quintessential rally car, arguably the most incredible of its era, and has remained absolutely popular to this day. It will be a busy year for GCK Motorsport, but the whole team is looking forward to this challenge. We will use green energy sources to make the new generation of World Rallycross one of the most environmentally friendly disciplines in international motorsport. It is undergoing significant change, and the impact is felt in all car manufacturers – he concluded – but we want to express ourselves to implement the development of some of these changes, and it is what keeps us all motivated every day ”.
