Rally | The Finnish rally championship was decided in a thriller-like manner by 0.4 seconds: “Jännäksi meni”

Mikko Heikkilä won the Finnish rally championship by one point to Emil Lindholm.

Mikko Heikkilä secured the Finnish rally car championship on Saturday, when he throttled to victory in the season-ending race around Kouvola.

Heikkilä fought for the championship by Emil Lindholm with and defeated his opponent in the race by only 0.4 seconds.

The championship was decided by a point difference, as Heikkilä and Lindholm scored 130 and 129 points during the season, respectively.

In his announcement, the master thanked his map reader Samu Vaaleria.

“Right at the beginning, a special mention for Samu. With zero experience in four-wheel drive to this side and he took care of the job at the very end. As a reward for him also SM gold, what could be better than that. It was crazy,” Heikkilä said.

Estonian Egon Kaur lost to the winner with his Volkswagen by 1.5 seconds and collected 104 points in the seven-race series, which entitled him to the bronze medal in the championship.
