Raisí vows revenge if Trump is not tried for Soleimaní’s death

The President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, affirmed this Monday that the umma (the Muslim community) will take revenge at his hand if the former US president Donald trump he is not tried for the murder of the general Qasem Soleimaní, whose death is completed two years.

“Trump, (former Secretary of State) Pompeo and his accomplices must be tried for the crime of the murder of General Qasem Soleimaní,” Raisí said at the main ceremony in memory of the ex-military, held at the Mosala Mosque in Tehran.

“The umma will avenge Soleimaní if Trump and Pompeo do not face justice,” the president warned.

Raisí made these remarks before thousands of people at the main ceremony to commemorate the death of the former general of the Iranian Revolution Guardians (IRGC) Quds Force in a US drone bombardment on January 3, 2020 near the Baghdad airport.

In recent days, cities such as Tehran have been filled with cartels celebrating the former military man, whom the regime describes as a “hero”, “martyr”, “social activist”, “activist against climate change” and “diplomat”, among others. .

For his part, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khameneí, promised that U.S and in particular Trump will pay for the death of Soleimaní.

“The assassins of the martyr Soleimaní like Trump will pay for their crime,” Khameneí wrote on his Twitter account, without explaining how. “The Soleimaní martyr is more dangerous to his enemies than General Soleimaní,” Khameneí said.

The anniversary comes amid talks in Vienna to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and Germany, France, the United Kingdom, China, Russia and the United States indirectly.

The nuclear deal limited the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions, but Washington abandoned it in 2018 and imposed new punitive measures against Iran.

In response, Tehran began to breach the limits imposed on its atomic program. The Vienna contacts have a twofold objective: for the US to return to the pact and for Iran to fully comply with it again.
