On the occasion of the last ‘free’ weekend of the 2021 calendar before the final double win that will see teams and drivers engaged in Saudi Arabia – debut for the Jeddah circuit – and in Abu Dhabi, at Sauber have decided to take advantage of the opportunity to pay the dutiful greeting to Kimi Raikkonen. The driver born in 1979, in fact, at the end of 2021 will definitively hang up his helmet, at least as regards his commitment in F1. The Finn’s career has been cyclical, as he began with Sauber in 2001, a glittering debut that immediately led the Scandinavian to score a point on March 4 in Melbourne in Australia on his debut.
In 2002 he moved to McLaren, in 2003 in Malaysia in the second race of the season, the first of his 21 wins (10 obtained with Ferrari, 9 with McLaren and 2 with Lotus), then in 2007 the landing in Maranello with the world title won on the first attempt. At the end of the first chapter of his adventure in Ferrari, Raikkonen left the Circus looking for his fortune in the World Rally and Nascar, but in 2012 he returned to F1 with Lotus, with which he spent two years at high levels that reopened his doors of Ferrari. In the summer of 2018, what was a real seat exchange with Charles Leclerc was made official, who after a year of apprenticeship at Alfa Romeo-Sauber was promoted to Ferrari. Kimi Raikkonen therefore spent three more seasons in F1 in the team that had launched him on the top automotive stage in terms of speed.

Smiling and excited in the company of the whole family – his wife Minttu and children Robin and Rianna – Kimi Raikkonen after viewing the clip dedicated to him and receiving the framed suit as a souvenir he greeted so the Swiss team at the end of the Iceman farewell celebrations: “Thank you all for this evening to remember. Thanks to everyone for the years spent together. Thanks for your hard work. Thanks for all the memories I will take with me. You are good people ”.
