The rapier severs one of the tendons of the right hand
The Murcian bullfighter Rafael Rubio ‘Rafaelillo’ acted this Saturday in the bullfight of the Úbeda Fair, a contest with bulls from ranches in the province of Jaén. The Murcian had an eventful afternoon, since after cutting off one of his ears first, he had to go to the infirmary after the fight in the afternoon room, suffering a cut on his hand, caused by the rapier .
The injury, which occurred in his right hand when entering to kill, had a first treatment in the square’s own infirmary, but when the severity was verified, since the cut affected one of the tendons, he was urgently transferred to the Hospital San Juan de la Cruz de Úbeda, to undergo surgery.
The report, issued by the square’s medical team, relates a “contusive-incised wound with affection of the deep flexor of the 2nd finger”, in addition to another “contusive-incised wound in the 1st finger of the right hand without tendon involvement”. The news that came from the hospital was that, around a quarter to ten at night, the Murcian bullfighter entered the operating room.
He cut off a very heavy ear from his first bull at El Anadío, after a task in which his natural bullfighting stood out. With the fourth, from Sancho Dávila, he pulled ex officio to get what he had, and after a puncture, in the lunge at the second match, he suffered the accident. He was applauded.
His co-stars were Curro Díaz, who fought bulls from Guadalmena and El Cotillo, with a result of two ears and applause, and Manuel Escribano, who faced a bull from Paco Sorando and another from Los Ronceles, obtaining an applause and two ears.
