The Brazilian city of Porto Alegre has been greatly affected by flooding caused by heavy rains in recent days. In that region, more than 140 people lost their lives and nearly 200,000 have had to be evacuated from their homes.
The land access roads to the state of Rio Grande do Sul are cut off due to the disaster caused by the rains and the airport of that city is out of service for the same reason.
“Practically all the large rivers in the state show an elevation trend,” reported the Civil Defense of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Football has not been immune to this tragedy. The Internacional and Gremio matches in the tournaments organized by the South American Football Confederation had to be rescheduled and today it is not known in which city they will be home. The images of the floods in the latter club’s stadium have gone around the world.
In the midst of the tragedy, several footballers have shown their solidarity with the flood victims. One of them is the Colombian Rafael Santos Borré, who this year joined Internacional, after his time at Werder Bremen in Germany.
Borré visited this Sunday, when Mother’s Day is celebrated, the State Sports Training Center, where dozens of families who had to leave their homes due to the tragedy are taking refuge.
The attacker, in addition to delivering donations to the victims, gave flowers to the mothers and handed out kits with sweets for the children taking refuge in that place.
