Rafael Méndez de Lorca participates in an international clinical trial to prevent stroke

The Rafael Méndez hospital is the first in the Region to participate in an international clinical trial to prevent stroke and thromboembolism. A total of 32 patients with cardiac devices who are treated in the Cardiac Electrostimulation Unit of this center are part of the ‘Artesia’ study led by Dr. Silvestre Nicolás.

The trial has been developed in Canada, 190 geographical areas of the United States, Canada and the European Union participate and 4,000 patients with pacemakers or resynchronizers intervene. The objective is to establish the best treatment strategy to prevent these cerebrovascular diseases that affect 3,000 people a year in the Region. Of these, 65% correspond to cases of ischemic stroke and it is the first cause of death in women and the second in men.
