In order to compete against XEW “The voice of Latin America from Mexico”, on March 10, 1942, the voice of Radio Mil (XEOY) was raised for the first time on Donato Guerra Street No. 26, in the City of from Mexico.
The project was gigantic, well supported financially by its owners Ignacio Díaz and José Iturbe. The only problem was that it only had 10,000 watts of power, that is, ten times less powerful than the famous W born in 1930. However, the quality of its programming soon made it one of the favorites of radio listeners in the capital, side of the XEQ and XEB.
In order to get on the XEW of Don Emilio Azcárraga, he used all the financial resources necessary to take from the powerful 900 kilocycle station artists of the stature of Chucho Martínez Gil, Jorge Negrete, Emilio Tuero, Sara García and others who They were at the pinnacle of fame.
And the truth is, it was making a dent in the powerful station of Ayuntamiento 54. Don Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta, in order not to let his errand be eaten, pirated the most famous artists of XEOY.
Finally, Radio Mil could not do much to XEW (while XEOY had 7.2% of the audience in the capital, W controlled 66.26%), which remained the queen of the quadrant for many decades. Today, the W is one of many stations in Mexico City.
