Have something against having against: ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio are complaining in Karlsruhe about Saxony-Anhalt’s blockade regarding the increase in broadcasting fees.
The Federal Constitutional Court wants to announce its verdict on the complaint by ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio about Saxony-Anhalt’s veto against an increase in fees on Thursday.
D.The Federal Constitutional Court wants to publish its decision on Thursday on complaints from ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio against the blockade of the increase in the broadcasting fee by Saxony-Anhalt. The court announced this on Monday (Az. 1 BvR 2756/20). The constitutional judges rejected urgent motions shortly before Christmas because they had not been well justified. The constitutional complaints of the public broadcasters were “neither obviously inadmissible nor obviously unfounded”, the court had declared at the time.
The radio license fee is the main source of income for public broadcasters and has been charged per apartment since 2013. It is 17.50 euros per month and should have increased by 86 cents to 18.36 euros at the turn of the year.
In order for the negotiated state treaty to come into force, however, the approval of Saxony-Anhalt is missing. Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff of the CDU had withdrawn the draft law on December 8th before the vote in the state parliament because it became clear that his party – unlike the coalition partners SPD and Greens – would not support the increase. But because all 16 state parliaments have to agree, the increase is blocked.
