For a year, artists have been fined. And with them all the little people who organize the shows. Saturday 23 January, from 9 p.m., Radio France offers its listeners six hours of concert, with a hundred artists from all musical backgrounds, and broadcast simultaneously on five branches of the public group (France Inter, France Musique, France Bleu, Fip, Mouv ‘… A “Hypernuit”, as Didier Varrod, the musical director of Radio France’s antennas, who will also present the evening. This is a first in the history of the Maison de la Radio… and of music since January.
All styles on one platform
The evening will be held in two stages: first, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., there will be a concert, where artists will follow one another, from Juliette Armanet to Benjamin Biolay, including Malik Djoudi or Tryo. Then, from 2 to 3 am, Radio France offers its set to DJs, with its “Rex Club”. ” The meaning of this hypernuit is in the title, in this large format imagined in support of the French scene », Explains Didier Varrod. ” Hyper because it is the first time in the history of Radio France that five branches of the same group will broadcast the same program. This is historic for us, because it corresponds to an equally historic situation: the forced shutdown of an entire sector. That of artists of course, but also of shadow trades that have become the world of the invisible»He continues. This evening, he sees it as “a cry of love and also a cry of alarm, because music is an essential good which helps to live and which repairs“. He also welcomes the mix of genres that will intersect during this experience: “Radio France is in its role of supporting the creation and dissemination of musical diversity, a fundamental meaning of this evening which will bring together artists of all musical aesthetics on the same stage, from jazz, electro, music. song, rap and only original duets, without promotion“. Another nice surprise, we will find in this evening “confirmed artists who reach out to emerging artists who are the sacrifices of this Covid crisis” notes Didier Varrod with enthusiasm.
A more than symbolic commitment
The evening will also have a dimension of solidarity “with all these shadow professions, technicians, catering managers, press officers, room programmers“, Without whom the world of music would find it difficult to organize, explains the music director of Radio France. “This evening illustrates by example the commitment that Radio France has deployed since the start of the health crisis, ”he continues. I had set up a Marshall Plan to support the industry: increase in the volume of music on our aerials, support for canceled festivals», He develops.
For Didier Varrod, this “Hypernuit” is “a nocturnal festival like a Woodstock of the French scene“,”obviously with the safety distances, without the audience but with the energy found to be together on a stage“. And for him, it’s a “more than symbolic commitment, the new name of the radio house(and therefore music, Editor’s note)forces us to do so. And it’s good“.
