Central CBD: The Armed Forces of Ukraine use decoy beacons to reveal the positions of the Russian Armed Forces
Hidden radio beacons-traps were found in some Ukrainian drones that the Russian military managed to land and take away. With their help, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) can determine the locations of Russian soldiers and strike at them.
Experts studying drones have already warned Russian units in the special operation zone about this, calling on them to destroy such beacons or “use them wisely.”
Autonomous beacon works for a long time and has a false shutdown button
Dmitry Kuzyakin, General Director of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (CDBR), which studied captured drones, toldthat beacons look just like a box with an antenna. They are “tightly” attached to the drone, have LoRaWan filling and are not connected to anything in the UAV itself. The radio beacon operates in energy-saving mode, receives a GPS signal and sends powerful data packets via LoRaWan. It is also equipped with a power off button, but it can only turn off audio alerts, while the signal continues to be sent.
According to Kuzyakin, previously these radio beacons were needed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in order to find fallen drones. But then the military began to use them to locate the locations of Russian military personnel, since soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces often pick up fallen or downed drones and take them to their stronghold.
It would seem, well, a radio beacon, what could go wrong with it? Anything can go wrong with it: they captured the drone, turned it off, brought it to the support center. In a couple of hours it will fly at you in such a way that it won’t seem like much. Because with the help of this simple device you yourself will tell the enemy where you are
He urged not to use a false shutdown button, but to either destroy the beacon itself, or “use it with ingenuity” if there is an understanding that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are monitoring the signal from it.
The Central Committee of the Russian Federation warned the Russian military about a new threat
Kuzyakin emphasized that the vigilance of Russian military personnel made it possible to learn about such beacons and study them. “These fighters were trained at the Central Design Bureau and were able to identify something that posed a threat,” he emphasized.
According to Kuzyakin, the Central Committee of the Russian Federation sent out a warning to all departments. Now, according to him, when soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces take away another drone from the field, they make sure that the device does not have any radio equipment.
The Center also talked about adapting FPV drones to urban battles
Earlier, speaking about the work of the Center, Dmitry Kuzyakin said that Russian FPV drones are being adapted to urban battles in order to avoid destruction into “lunar landscapes.” He clarified that it should be a lightweight, maneuverable drone that, if necessary, can literally fly into a hole in the walls and still maintain contact with the pilot. “In the future, it should help to avoid the demolition of houses during battles,” he concluded.
However, he pointed out that although the use of FPV drones has a significant impact on the battlefield, drones are not “miracle weapons” and will not replace tanks.
According to the director, over time, drones will take their place in the variety of elements of warfare. But the leader compared talk that FPV drones are a game-changing weapon and will determine the fate of tanks with predictions from the beginning of the last century about the disappearance of artillery. Kuzyakin associated the popularity of FPV drones with the low cost of manufacturing drones and the high efficiency of their use.
