Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevgeny Shevchenko, expelled from the ruling Servant of the People party after an unauthorized visit to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, spoke about plans to become President of Ukraine in 2024. He stated this in interview TV channel ONT.
According to Shevchenko, there is a need to participate in the elections, and he “will have to do it.”
“I understand that our country needs to be saved. To say that I already have plans ready, I will not say so. Desire… Not even a desire, it is a necessity. I always planned to become a political leader, to have my own party and to enter parliament with my small faction in order to represent the interests of the south-east of Ukraine, people who are mentally close to me, close to Belarus, to the Russians, who believe that we are all brothers, that we are not in no case should they be at enmity, fight, they should integrate, be friends with families, ”he said.
In May, Shevchenko was expelled from the ruling Servant of the People party due to an unauthorized visit to Lukashenka in late April. At a meeting with the president of a neighboring country, the deputy confessed the love of Ukrainians for Belarusians and called these peoples the closest to each other. Lukashenka noted that Shevchenko was not afraid to go against the current.
Relations between Kiev and Minsk deteriorated in 2020. In Belarus, fighters of a Russian private military company were detained, some of whom turned out to be Ukrainian citizens and fought in the Donbass. Kiev requested their extradition, but the detainees returned to Russia. Minsk, in turn, accused Ukraine of involvement in mass protests against Lukashenka.
