Enrico Letta Silvio Berlusconi Giuliano Amato
Quirinale, tight deadlines for Amato. On January 28, he will become president of the Constitutional Court, if he does not first take the Colle road
The die is cast. Silvio Berlusconi, as anticipated by Affaritaliani.it, goes towards retirement from the race for the Quirinale. Now it seems only a matter of time. On the opposite side, Enrico Letta keeps the cards face down, but according to what appears to Affaritaliani.it there are two options for the Democratic Party secretary: Mario Draghi And Giuliano Amato. The card of the Prime Minister, who could theoretically be elected in the first round, brings with it the problem of finding another prime minister and signing a new legislative pact.
Matteo Salvini keeps saying that it would be better if SuperMario stayed at Palazzo Chigi in the coming months and, despite Antonio Tajani’s reverse, it is known that not even Come on Italy goes crazy for Draghi al Colle. Same goes for Matteo Renzi and for an important slice of the 5 stars. In short, the premier remains in the running but the obstacles at the moment are numerous.
Salvini’s real fear, sources from the Carroccio explain, is that Berlusconi, once you have acknowledged that you are out of the game, agree with Letta and the Democratic Party to vote for Amato Head of state. And everything must be done quickly, since Doctor Sottile will most likely be elected president of the Constitutional Court next January 28 (unless you take the Quirinale road first).
In the League, the fear is that the former Knight does not want anyone else from the Center-right and it is precisely for this reason that the secretary of the Carroccio he is working on a proposal to be put in place immediately after the formalization of Berlusconi’s withdrawal. League sources explain that, for example Marcello Pera and Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, could find the votes of an important slice of the pentastellati, as well as of the Brothers of Italy (and perhaps also of the Azzurri).
Basically, Salvini is preparing the strategy to block the Letta-Berlusconi axis on Amato with another Center-right candidate who comes from or who has played in the past for the Azzurri and who does not mind even the M5S (especially in terms of anti-Dragons and therefore anti-early elections). But in addition to plan B (Pera or Casellati), Salvini also has plan C.
Where another Center-right exponent did not have the numbers, the number one in via Bellerio, recommended by Denis Verdini in these days, in order to block Beloved, could launch the name of Pierferdinando Casini in agreement with Renzi. It is true that the former Speaker of the Chamber was elected senator with the Center-left in the last elections and that he voted his trust in Count II, but he also defended the same Salvini at Palazzo Madama on the Gregoretti case and in the past he was an important member of the Center-right for years.
Finally, both sources of the Democratic Party and of the League tend to exclude the name of Marta Cartabia. Despite the desire of a woman at Colle, the minister of the Justice, never been a parliamentarian, would not have those characteristics that political forces are looking for for such an important role in a very delicate phase for the country.
