Hundreds of people fill the Plaza de San Francisco and other central areas in the hours before New Year’s Eve
The same good atmosphere as in the ‘Buena Afternoon’ but with the streets a little clearer of people. This is how Cartagena lived the hours before the turn of the year, especially in its historic center, taken over by hundreds of people who celebrated on the terraces of the bars in the company of family and friends.
The Plaza de San Francisco was the nerve center of this party, already known as the ‘Tardevieja’, in which young people dressed up in advance for dinners and party favors mixed with others still equipped with the sportswear with which they ran the massive race. of San Silvestre in the morning. The terraces of the Glorieta were packed with the public and the municipal nativity scene also registered a high influx of visits.
The festive atmosphere also spread through the nearby streets, such as Honda, Aire, Cañón, Puerta de Murcia and Plaza del Rey. A sunny day, with almost spring-like temperatures until four in the afternoon but somewhat humid when the sun went down, encouraged many people to take to the streets to complete their purchases, go to the terraces and also stroll along the Alfonso XII Wharf, where there is a Christmas market and attractions for the little ones. However, some young people highlighted that “there are a few fewer people than on Christmas Eve, but the atmosphere is still very good.”
Starting at eleven at night, Cartagena organizes a New Year’s Eve party in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, on the occasion of the retransmission of the twelve chimes through the regional television, La 7, of the clock of the Palacio Consistorial.
