The Canarian artist Pedro Quevedo has released his second studio album, ‘Buenas noche’, in which he has “reggaetonized” his new way of life with 18 songs, among which are collaborations with Aitana or with the Granada ragpicker Yung Beef.
«It’s hard for me to sleep, in that moment of insomnia, I like to listen to music and play complete albums. This album is the journey between when you realize that you have insomnia and until you fall asleep again,” the artist explained in statements to the media.
The work is based on several pillars and what happens to him at night – the party, the recordings in the studio, the conversations or the silence on the street – is what makes him happiest and also when he is most productive.
Thus, elements such as red carpets, glitter, gold, time, sex or love are themes that the artist repeats throughout the entire work using lyrics closer to reggaeton based on pop bases from the early years. from the 2000s, a tribute to artists like Jason Derulo, Justin Timberlake and Pitbull, who signs another of the collaborations.
«There are many songs on the album in which I have brought the reggaetonized language to songs that marked me, iconic. Maybe they are not personal lyrics, but everyone will be able to identify with little things,” Quevedo added.
‘Buenas noche’ opens and closes with a pessimistic vision of fame, although the artist has acknowledged that in this album he wanted to show “the beauty” of his work, which is his dream. Thus, in ‘Kassandra’ he shows that vision through passion with a woman who understands him and who shares that feeling, because she also experiences fame up close. “Always accompanied / But always alone,” the artist sings.
Likewise, the work ends with ‘Good night’, in which fame is something more lonely. «It is a relief, an open letter with a different sound. It is the topic that resolves all the personal questions that people have about me,” Quevedo explained.
Precisely, with a pop base and sound of drums and guitar, the artist shares intimate thoughts such as missing his mother, the love-hate relationship with tours and concerts, or the need to do “commercial” things to resonate with everyone. the sites. “Knowing that if it comes out of my chest it won’t be played on the radio,” sings the canary in another of the album’s songs, ‘How disgusting about everything’.
Collaborations with Aitana, Pitbull…
The first part of the album, as the artist himself has explained, is “super explicit” or even “superficial”, although in the second half, Quevedo shows “fuller content.”
With Aitana, in ‘Gran Vía’, the artist approaches the sound of Catalan, and both sign a pop song with musical references to the 80s, although this record changes completely in ‘La 125’ with Yung Beef or ‘Equals’.
“Although at first glance Yung Beef and I don’t have much in common, I think it is a way to give him recognition for everything he has been for trap in Spain,” Quevedo highlighted.
Precisely, ‘Halo’ – a song named after the Halo bullets – is a song that he signed with his friend and artist La Pantera and that continues with that style of “maleanteo” that began in the collaboration with Yung Beef. «It is one of the most special songs for me. “We are playing at being gangsters,” Quevedo joked.
Thus, ‘Hard’; ‘Chapiadora.com’; ‘From behind’; ’14 Februarys’, with the artist Sin Nombre; and ‘Mr Moondial’, with Pitbull, make up that first, more “explicit” part of the album, while ‘Noemú’; ‘Shibatto’; ‘The Counted Days’, with Rels B; ‘The chorus’; ‘Amaneció’, a song he signed with De La Rose and De La Ghetto; ‘I failed you’, with Sech; and ‘Buenas noche’, give the most personal meaning without moving away from the reggaeton bases mixed with electronic music or ‘hyperpop’.
“No one can do the things I do, not because they are very complicated, but because they are mine alone,” the artist concluded.
