Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II said she wished Ukrainians better times in a message marking Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The letter was published by the British Embassy in Kyiv as Ukraine celebrates the anniversary in light of the current crisis.
August 24 marks the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s secession from Moscow’s rule following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
“It is with great pleasure that I send your Excellency and the people of Ukraine the warmest greetings on your celebration of Independence Day,” the UK Embassy in Ukraine tweeted, “In her address to the President of Ukraine, she said,” British news agency BA Media reported.
“I hope that in this year of great challenges, today will be a time for the Ukrainian people in Ukraine and around the world to celebrate their culture, history and identity,” she added.
