From Portimao to Austin without tests
Two weeks after the last round of the season, MotoGP will return this weekend Austin for the GP of the Americas, third round of the calendar. A round to which the Yamaha will show up without having taken part in the tests following the Portuguese GP due to the rain that fell on the Portimao circuit, but with great market news.
The surprise 'signed' by Quartararo
Contrary to general expectations, which suggested a possible agreement between Fabio Quartararo and another team on the basis of the Frenchman's dissatisfaction with the results obtained so far, El Diablo has instead signed a contract renewal with the Japanese team until 2026. News that has surprised most fans, and which has ended up in the everyone's talking on the eve of the US event together with that of the acquisition of Dorna Sports by Liberty Media, already owner of Formula 1.
From Texas the beginning of a new challenge
The 2021 world champion is thus preparing to open a new parenthesis of his career with Yamaha from Austin, where the transalpine achieved two podiums in MotoGP, the last of which last year: “We arrive in Austin with work to do – he has declared – we missed the opportunity to test in Portimao, so we have to work hard this weekend. I am happy to have announced my stay at Yamaha. I think this will help us, both me and the team, because we have clearly stated our intentions. I want to bring Yamaha back to victory and they are motivated to develop the bike. Now we can focus on the work to be done to achieve this goal.”
Indulge in memories
If last year Quartararo crossed the finish line in 3rd place, he did even better Alex Rins, winner on Honda. A success that was added to the 2019 one, then with Suzuki, in addition to the 2nd place in 2022 again with the Japanese manufacturer, before the latter's withdrawal from the MotoGP: “Of course I am very happy to return to COTA (Circuit of the Americas, ed.). It's a track I really like and last year's win was something special – he added – I can't wait to run this GP is one of my favourites. But rather than spending too much time remembering, I want to focus on the task at hand. It was a real shame that the private test in Portimao was cancelled. We were very unlucky with the weather. We had to change our plans and this weekend we will work on the adjustments of my bike“.
