“North Korea fired an unspecified projectile eastward,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement, without providing further details.
Pyongyang conducted seven weapons tests in January, including its most powerful missile since 2017.
But analysts said North Korea has temporarily halted testing during the Winter Games in Beijing, possibly out of consideration for its main ally, China.
North Korea warned last month that it could drop its voluntary moratorium since 2017 on testing nuclear weapons and long-range weapons.
North Korea’s new experiences come at a sensitive time in the region, as South Korea prepares to elect its president on March 9.
