The problem of possible damage to infrastructure in the permafrost zone due to climate change is being studied, and in the future it is possible that the population will be relocated to more comfortable regions, Ruslan Edelgeriev, adviser to the president, special presidential envoy for climate issues, admitted during a conversation with journalists at the Gaidar Forum. He made the corresponding statement in response to a question from Lenta.ru about the possibility of organizing a “great migration of the north” against the backdrop of potential threats.
He explained that the problem is in the field of view, the necessary studies are being carried out, including on behalf of the Russian leader Vladimir Putin. “If we see that those engineering solutions do not allow further expansion, or it will be more expensive, economically wrong, will not justify the costs, then, of course, it is possible that these people can be transported to more comfortable regions. It is possible, it is a matter of time and expediency,” Edelgeriev explained.
