Lawmakers from the party of Russian President Vladimir Putin have promoted the expansion of the so-called “gay propaganda” law where this time they will also include those of legal age.

The “gay propaganda” law that has been in force in Russia for 11 years, was promoted in order to prevent LGBTI+ pride marches and with the aim of preventing minors from having knowledge of “non-traditional values”.
“We propose to broaden the prohibition of this type of propaganda in a general way, regardless of the age of the public, both in the media, on the internet, on social networks and in cinemas and online,” said the head of the commission of information from the Russian Lower House, Alexander Khinshtein, on his Telegram messaging channel.

In turn, in a recent speech, the President of the Russian Parliament, Viacheslav Volodin, reported that due to the fact that Russia left the Council of Europe’s human rights monitoring body due to the invasion of Ukraine, it will now be able to ban the promotion of “non-traditional values”.
“Demands to legalize same-sex marriages in Russia are a thing of the past,” he stressed.
And he added: “attempts to impose alien values on our society have failed.”
In November last year, Russian authorities classified one of the country’s leading LGBT+ rights organizations as a “foreign agent,” complicating its work defending this community.
This is the LGBT-Set organization, which operates in several regions of the country and offers legal and psychological assistance, in addition to carrying out awareness campaigns.
