The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, revealed this Wednesday that he had received a dose of the nasal vaccine against Covid-19 produced in the country, as part of the tests carried out by the Gamaleya Center, which developed, among others, Sputnik V.
The head of government, in a meeting with other members of the cabinet, said that, last Sunday, he was immunized with the single-dose preparation produced in the country, Sputnik Light. The next day, according to Putin’s account, he received a nasal dose of the immunizer, which is in clinical trials in Russia.
The country’s president had previously expressed his desire to participate in the vaccine studies, which had its development announced in the middle of this year.
“I sat there for about 15 minutes after receiving the dose and that was it. I felt nothing, absolutely nothing,” said Putin.
The head of government had already been vaccinated against Covid-19 in February, however, he only announced the immunization with Sputnik V four months later.
Today, Putin defended the need for the population to participate in the vaccination campaign and in the search for booster doses, although he spoke out against the mandatory participation in the process.
Today, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Tatiana Golikova, reported that 50.4% of the country’s population has a complete vaccination program against Covid-19.
In a balance released on Wednesday, the country’s authorities informed the record of over 33,558 cases of infection by the new coronavirus, 438 fewer than the day before.
In addition, the death toll was 1,240, very close to the record set in the country, which was 1,254 victims reported last Friday.
