Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to announce a decision on the recognition of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) later on Monday, February 21. He stated this at a meeting of the country’s Security Council, which was broadcast led portal “Looking.ru”.
“I heard your opinion, the decision will be made today. I want to thank you for this meeting, for this meeting,” the head of state said after a speech by members of the Security Council, including Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and others.
Earlier it was reported that all members of the Security Council supported the recognition of the independence of the DNR and LNR.
On February 21, the heads of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed Putin with a corresponding request. Prior to that, on February 15, the deputies of the State Duma of Russia during the rating voting decided to immediately turn to the president with the question of the need to recognize the independence of the republics of Donbass. 351 parliamentarians voted for the draft resolution.
