A friend of Vladimir Putin, the president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said in an interview with the Japanese television channel TBS that the Russian president is in “his best shape”. “He is a completely healthy and physically healthy person; he is an athlete,” he said in the interview released on Saturday (19).

In the testimony, reproduced by the Reuters news agency, Lukashenko also lamented the end of the Soviet Union, which in Putin’s view was the worst geopolitical catastrophe of the last century.

“As long as the Soviet Union existed, the world was multipolar, one pole balanced the other,” declared the Belarusian. “Now, the blame for what is happening in the world is the monopolization of the planet by the United States,” he added.

In addition to serving Russia as one of the starting points for the invasion of Ukraine, the territory of Belarus was a meeting point for rounds of negotiations between Kiev and Moscow.
