Putin: the decrease in trade turnover with Turkey is explained by the adjustment in prices for goods
The decrease in trade turnover with Turkey is caused by an adjustment in commodity prices. This explanation was given by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic, Hakan Fidan, his words are quoted by TASS.
The head of state expressed hope that the situation will improve in the near future.
“Over the past year, or rather last year, we had good growth, and at the beginning of this year we had a slight decrease in the level of trade turnover, but we attribute this primarily to the adjustment in prices for our main export and import goods. I hope that we will be able to correct this situation in the near future, and everything will develop, even like last year,” he said.
Also, during a conversation with Fidan, Putin expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between Russia and Turkey and added that he would meet with Erdogan in Astana in July.
Since the beginning of March, a problem has arisen with payment transfers between Russia and Turkey and has persisted for several months. Russian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic Alexey Erkhov said that some transfers between countries go through, but a large number of transactions are slowed down due to the risk of local companies and banks falling under secondary sanctions of Western countries.
A representative of the state-owned bank Ziraat in Ankara said on June 10 that there have been no fundamental changes in resolving the problem with bank transfers from Russia to Turkey, and certain difficulties with conducting transactions still exist. According to him, the parties are unable to make any progress in resolving this problem.
