Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a formal reason why he did not congratulate candidate Joe Biden on winning the US presidential election. The head of state announced this on the air of the Russia 1 TV channel.
“There is no ulterior motive here and nothing that would be unusual or could underlie the further destruction of our relationship,” Putin explained. The Russian leader believes that “purely formal things” should be done in accordance with established practice and proceeding from the legal side of the matter.
At the same time, he noted that Russia respects the current US President Donald Trump and Joe Biden and will work with any leader chosen by the American people. But it is necessary that one of the parties recognize the victory of the other, or the winner is determined by the final results of the elections.
The US electoral system has problems, but it is up to the American people to solve them, Putin added.
The US presidential election ended on November 3, but the final results of the vote have not yet been summed up. Trump and Biden refuse to admit defeat, each calling himself a winner.
