Banning the dollar in international payments and using it as a tool of struggle is a colossal mistake by the US administration, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a conversation with the heads of the largest international news agencies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reports RIA News.
“It’s complete nonsense, it undermines confidence in the dollar, it’s just ridiculous,” he said.
Previously, Putin emphasized that Russia does not want to abandon the dollar, but is forced to do so due to the fact that it has begun to face obstacles in making payments in American and European currencies. At the same time, the head of state expressed confidence that Western countries are shooting themselves in the foot because they are reducing the possibility of using their currency as a reserve currency.
