Senator Pushkov: Western leaders do not quite soberly assess their ability to help Ukraine
Senator Alexei Pushkov said that Western leaders are overestimating their ability to support Ukraine and live under sanctions. He wrote about this in his Telegram-channel.
While promising to support Ukraine “as long as it takes”, Western leaders may be doing this in pursuit of an external effect, not quite soberly assessing how much they are actually capable of providing such support and bearing the burden of their own sanctions to the detriment of the interests and needs of their countries.
A member of the Federation Council recalled that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had recently been ironic about “the end of the party for Russian hydrocarbons”, but in the end, “the political party was over” for him.
Damage to the Western economy
Earlier it was reported that the leaders of the Western powers are beginning to recognize that the unprecedented sanctions against Moscow are hurting the economy of their own countries, while not having a significant impact on the Kremlin. This was stated by columnist Brahma Chellani in his column for the American edition of The Hill.
He noted that in March, US President Joe Biden hurried to declare that “sanctions are crushing the Russian economy” and “the ruble has turned into ruins.” According to Cellani, the West’s sanctions campaign against Russia was hardly effective. Moreover, it emphasizes the limits of Western power, the publicist emphasized.
Prior to this, another columnist for The Hill, William Moloney, said that the reaction to the situation in Ukraine was Biden’s second mistake, which leads to the strategic humiliation of NATO. The first failure he called the “shameful flight” of the United States from Afghanistan.

“The Triple Trap of Moscow”
According to the author of the material for the German publication Focus, Russian President Vladimir Putin uses three important trump cards that allow him to competently build political interaction with the West against the backdrop of the crisis in Ukraine.
Among the levers are gas, peace talks and Moscow’s partners. The expert noted that the West fell into a “triple trap”, and Russia was in a tactically advantageous position. He also stressed that Russia’s diplomatic and economic isolation has failed.
The publication cites the G20 meeting as an example. It is noted that not all G-20 member countries are critical of Russia and its special military operation. In addition, the author points to the dependence of the West on Russian energy resources.

US support is no longer enough
On July 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that the United States is not doing enough to support Kyiv. He stated this in an interview with CNN.
The United States helps Ukraine, it helps a lot, but it’s not enough to win. We want to increase this assistance. We are fighting for our territory, we do not want people from other countries to fight for our territory. But the US is the world economy and can help us both with arms and finances.”
According to him, the United States can influence the decisions of European countries, we are also talking about political support. The President stressed that some European countries want a balance between Russia and Ukraine, but they began to support Kyiv because of the United States.
