Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the statement of US President Joe Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki about a possible telephone conversation between the American leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Pushkov, the administration of the new US president hinted that the head of the Russian Federation should be the first to call his American counterpart.
“But should Putin be the first to call Biden? Should one be above “conventions”? But both Washington and Moscow are well aware that there are no conventions in politics – everything matters, ”Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.
The senator also urged not to forget that Biden came to the White House with a certain attitude and spoke of Russia as an enemy of the United States.
Earlier, White House spokesman Jen Psaki said that US President Joe Biden is not yet planning telephone talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. However, as Psaki noted, Biden, “of course, picks up the phone, communicates with a number of foreign leaders, Europeans and others.”
In turn, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov previously said that Putin remains committed to the development of relations between Russia and the United States, stressing that this attitude of the Russian leader, unfortunately, has not been reciprocated overseas in recent years.
