Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov called the 20-year US military campaign in Afghanistan worthless and senseless.
On his Telegram channel on August 31, he shared an infographic from which it follows that the American authorities spent $ 2.2 trillion on their military mission in the Islamic state.
“In the recent history of the United States, full of geopolitical miscalculations, there was, perhaps, nothing more dull and senseless than this war,” Pushkov responded to this information.
He also noted that the departure of the last US Air Force flight from Kabul launched a “new round of harsh criticism” of American policy in Afghanistan, the actions of its armed forces, as well as the decisions of President Joe Biden.
“Leading US media and agencies compete for bitter and frustrating headlines. The United States has started “Afghan syndrome” – wrote the Russian senator.
Earlier that day, the official representative of the Taliban Politburo (recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation), Mohammad Naim, said that all foreign military personnel had left the territory of Afghanistan, and now the state is completely under the control of the Taliban.
On August 30, the head of the United States Central Command, General Kenneth Mackenzie, confirmed in an interview with reporters the departure of the last US Air Force plane from Kabul and the completion of the 20-year American mission in Afghanistan.
In turn, the US Civil Aviation Administration has notified that the US military no longer controls the airspace over the airport in the Afghan capital. According to an Al Jazeera source, the Kabul air harbor has come under full Taliban control.
The situation in Afghanistan escalated in May 2021 after the start of the withdrawal of American troops who had been in the country for the past 20 years.
On August 15, Taliban fighters entered Kabul, then announced the “end of the war.” On the same day, the President of the Islamic Republic, Ashraf Ghani, left the country.
