Governor of RN states that “impunity is oblivion” in event marking the 1st anniversary of attacks on the Three Powers
The governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra (PT), mentioned the “need” of punishment for those involved in January 8th. “It is necessary to state, yes, without amnesty. It is not a feeling of revenge, of revanchism, it is rather a pedagogical act“, he said at an event at the National Congress this Monday (8 January 2024) to remember the extremist acts.
“A impunity achieves oblivion. Our duty is to help ensure that this past is not forgotten.”, he said. The governor was the first authority to speak at the event, held in the Black Room. She defined the invasion of the Three Powers as “one of the most unhappy pages” from the “Contemporary history”.
The PT member also stated that the moment that marks 1 year of extremist acts must be “union and federative solidarity” in the country. “Os governors of Brazil are here to reaffirm that, beyond our political and ideological differences, what unites us is the love for our country, respect for the constitution and the defense of democracy”stated.
