Some time ago, GamesIndustry.biz revealed that the interest of third-party publishers in publishing games on Xbox Series X|S was decreasing substantially. Specifically, it was mentioned that one of the largest companies in the industry is considering whether or not to bring its experiences to the Microsoft platform. Now, Digital Foundry has shared new details about this controversial topic.
In the recent episode of the Digital Foundry podcast, Oliver Mackenzie pointed out that AAA games will still come to Xbox Series X|S, because the audience margin and profits are positive for the studios. However, Independent teams are the ones that are questioning their future presence on this platform. At the end of the day, what truly dictates whether or not a title comes to Microsoft's console is the scale of the project and the type of audience that will purchase a certain experience.
However, another issue that came to light was the performance of the Xbox Series S. Let us remember that this console has lower specifications than those seen in the Series Developers have to take this into consideration when working on Microsoft consoles. This requires more resources, and optimizing a game to run on two different hardware has become a problem for more than one developer.
For its part, Xbox, or any other third-party studio, has remained silent on this issue, so it is unknown for sure if any company does not plan to support Microsoft in the future. Until now, the biggest AAA titles of the year, such as Star Wars: Outlawsare planned to reach the Series X|S.
We can only wait for more information to become available on the matter. However, The discussions and reports will not end until an official representative speaks clearly about third-party support on Xbox. On related topics, Xbox opens division for the preservation of games. Similarly, Kena Bridge of Spirits would come to Xbox consoles.
Author's Note:
Third party support on Xbox will not come to an end. Companies like Ubisoft, EA and Take-Two still see a big market here. However, it is true that small studios will probably choose to ignore Xbox, and focus on PC, Switch and PlayStation 5, where users are willing to pay for these types of experiences.
