A sentence of 16 years has been demanded against suspect Piet S. for the importation of and trade in thousands of kilos of hard and soft drugs, assault, bribery, possession of firearms and money laundering. This was determined by the Public Prosecution Service on Friday. The claim against S. is part of the Taxus criminal case, for which 26 other suspects are on trial, including his son Freddy and nephew Simon. S. is the main suspect in the case.
The OM describes S. as “the boss of the criminal organization” and “an international criminal drug broker”. Sentences of up to eleven years have been demanded against the group around S. The court is expected to rule on the case in the fall.

According to the judiciary, Taxus is one of the largest criminal cases ever. The public prosecutor has scheduled no fewer than 45 court days for the criminal case, which will last until July.
Encrochat
The investigation into Piet S.’s crime organization began in 2016. The police used eavesdropping equipment and set up an extensive undercover operation in Spain, where S. often stayed. The detectives also used information they obtained by cracking servers of the company Encrochat, which provided encrypted communication services to mostly criminals.
Justice also wanted to deprive S. of more than 60 million euros in criminal profits because of the drug smuggling. S., who previously served years of imprisonment, partly because of hashish smuggling, previously stated that he has been criminally retired for fifteen years because he thought it was “enough” in prison.
