PUBG: Battlegrounds will bring back the classic Erangel map from 2017. It will be available on PC from May 14th to 28thwhile on console it will be possible to rediscover this area from May 23rd until June 6th.
Precisely, the map will be called Erangel Classic and will take the place of modern Erangel in normal matches during this limited time period.
Between confirmed characteristics that will return with the old map are: the rainy and foggy weather, the pre-game island with a downed plane, a reduction in weapon recoil (not identical to the original version, in any case), the classic UI and the tommy gun in the care packages. However, modern gameplay changes will be part of this OG experience, and patch notes will be more precise starting May 13th.
Old maps coming back
The idea of re-proposing one old map inside a battle royale it's certainly not new. In many cases something like this has been done and one of the loudest and easiest to remember is that of Fortnite.
The Epic Games game has in fact proposed an entire “OG” season in which the first map of the game was proposed again. The success in this case was enormous, also because the players gave vent to their nostalgia. The PUBG: Battlegrounds team is probably hoping to achieve the same results.
Obviously we don't just look at the past. In fact, PUBG: Battlegrounds aims to evolve with the transition to Unreal Engine 5 which will allow the inclusion of new functions, as well as improving the graphic quality. However, it is not clear whether the new version will be available only for PC or also for consoles.
