The popular online video game PUBG: Battlegrounds for PC and console has announced a collaboration with the k-pop group NewJeans, made up of five girls who have had incredible success in two years since their debut, appearing in eighth place among the most successful artists on the global scene in 2023. Although details are scarce for now and the announcement was only anticipated by a teaser, it is easy to imagine that the battle royale video game will be populated with objects, weapons and skins made in the band’s typical style.

A few days after the launch of the new single “How Sweet”, the collaboration with PUBG: Battlegrounds marks another significant milestone for NewJeans, who are not new to this type of synergies. The group, despite its young age in the K-pop scene, has already had a successful collaboration with Riot Games for the game League of Legends. In fact, last October 4th, the track “Gods”, the anthem of the League of Legends 2023 World Championship, was launched.
Collaborations between K-pop artists and video games are nothing new. For example, Le Sserafim recently collaborated with Overwatch 2, introducing new legendary skins and a special game mode inspired by the group. Exo’s Byun Baek-hyun has made his debut as the voice of champion Ezreal in League of Legends’ new virtual group HeartSteel. We can’t forget Blackpink’s success with PUBG Mobile, who held their first virtual concert within the game in 2022 and released the song “Ready For Love.” Other notable collaborations include Twice with Roblox, where they created the virtual platform “Twice Square”.
