The president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, declared this Friday (3) that Israel “discriminates” against Brazil by leaving Brazilians living in the Gaza Strip out of the third list of civilian citizens authorized to leave the region, without, according to her , present any explanation for this attitude.
The opening of a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of civilians from Gaza began on Wednesday (1st), but so far the lists of people authorized to leave the territory have not included the names of Brazilians. This Saturday (4), a fourth list was released, still without Brazilian citizens.
“For the third time, the Israeli government denied the departure of Brazilian citizens threatened by the massacre against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip,” wrote the federal deputy on social network late Friday afternoon. “And he did not present any explanation for this attitude of discriminating against a country, Brazil, which has historical relations with the State of Israel”, he continued. “A country that, at the head of the UN Security Council, made every effort for a negotiated solution to the conflict.”
“Unfortunately, the Israeli government signals that it has established a political hierarchy for the release of civilians, favoring some countries over others.”
She also wrote that, in the same way that she defends the release of Israeli hostages, she does not admit “that Brazilian civilians remain threatened in a region under military massacre”.
Also on Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, stated that he had received a guarantee from the Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, that Brazilians will leave the Gaza Strip by next Wednesday (8). In total, 34 Brazilians are awaiting authorization to leave the region.
