The gaming industry has been traversed by two different currents and types of people: hardcore and casual. On the one hand we have the players who want to platinum everything, kill the strongest monster in the hardest mode, blindfolded and with their hands tied … on the other hand there are those who just want to enjoy the story, an adventure in some fantasy world , without having to work too hard.
Pleasing both of you in one fell swoop is sometimes complicated, but in fact it exists a very simple solution, which Double Fine will make available with Psychonauts 2: invincibility. For years now, all games have had different levels of difficulty to meet everyone’s ability and needs, but what if even the lowest difficulty is too much? Well, just activate “invincibility” and walk among the enemies until you feel you can continue on your own.
All people should be able to enjoy a game. All ages, all possible needs. It is an important and ongoing process for our industry and a challenge we must overcome.
At the end of the day? We want you to have fun, laugh, and experience a story that strikes you. On your terms.
This is the policy of Double Fine, which rightly sees an accessibility problem in the difficulty of the game, especially in a product like Psychonauts 2 with a very attractive design even for the youngest. Invincibility may be considered a “cheat” by many, I personally remember well that I started playing Sonic 2 when I was 4 years old, taking the part of the immortal Tails and I don’t see anything wrong with it.
Psychonauts 2 will arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC on August 25th. What kind of gamers are you and what is your position on difficulty in video games? Come and talk about it on our Facebook group.
If you beat Psychonauts 2 with the invincibility toggle on, you still beat P2. https://t.co/OinBv1nuNr
