In 2020, emedebistas were the ones who won the most in cities, but now they are in 2nd place; Lula’s PT had 248 victories and occupies 9th position on the list
THE PSD (Social Democratic Party), by Gilberto Kassab, overthrew the MDB (Brazilian Democratic Movement) on Sunday (6.Oct.2024) and became the party with the most elected mayors in Brazil. There were 882 victorious candidates from the party in the 1st round, against 856 cities won by the emedebistas.
The MDB occupied the top ranking of elected mayors in Brazil at least since 2000. Now, it loses that position status. It won 63 city halls compared to 2020, but dropped one place.
THE PT (Workers’ Party) nominated 248 names in municipal executives. The president’s caption Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is in 9th place on the list. Elected 66 more mayors compared to 2020.
In the infographic below, the mayors elected by party since 2004:
THE PL (Liberal Party) had 512 victorious candidates. The former president’s acronym Jair Bolsonaro occupies 5th position in the ranking. He rose one place compared to 2020. He won 168 more city halls than in the previous election.
THE Psol did not elect anyone in the 2024 municipal elections. He fell 4 positions in 4 years. It was in 21st position in 2020. The acronym that lost the most names in municipal executives was the PSDB. There were 523 in 2020. It dropped to 273 in this year’s elections (-250).
The numbers should see small changes for some parties, after the 2nd round of elections in 52 cities on October 27th.
