The party bench is made up of 4 senators; The PDT has also made official its support for the União Brasil senator
THE PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) made it official in this Wednesday (9.Oct.2024) support for the candidacy of David Alcolumbre (União-AP) to the presidency of the Senate. The party bench is made up of 4 senators: Flavio Arns (PR), Jorge Kajuru (GO), Cid Gomes (EC) and Chico Rodrigues (RR).
Alcolumbre also already has the support of the PDT (Democratic Labor Party)integrated by Ana Paula Lobato (BAD), Leila Barros (DF) and Weverton (BAD).
In note (read the full text below)the PSB adopted a similar tone to the PDT and stated that, with Alcolumbre, “the presidency of the Federal Senate will continue the democratic conduct and strengthening of the democratic institutions of the Republic carried out” by the president Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).
“The decision of the socialist bench was based on Senator Alcolumbre’s capacity for balance and leadership, proven in his previous terms as president of the House and the Constitution and Justice Commission”stated the senators and the president of the party, Carlos Siqueira, who signed the statement.
THE DISPUTE
Alcolumbre is considered the favorite in the race for command of the Senate. The election will be held in early February 2025.
The senator has the support of a large part of the opposition and the center. The native of Amapá is an ally of Pacheco and currently presides over the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission), the most important body in the House.
The president’s government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) resists supporting him, but does not want to alienate the likely president of Congress.
Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA) and Soraya Thronicke are also interested in the dispute. Eliziane and Soraya agreed to launch a single female candidacy from whoever is best positioned.
To the Power360Otto stated on 3th fair (Oct 8) that “many colleagues and bench leaders ask for his candidacy“.
