According to Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, the shortage of semiconductors that is plaguing the manufacturing of PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch OLED, GPU and not only will it continue at least until 2023. This means that it will be difficult to get your hands on Sony and Microsoft’s flagship consoles or buy video cards at human prices next year.
In an interview with CNBC, Gelsinger explains that the most critical moment for the company is right now, while in 2022 it expects a regular increase in stocks, but that nevertheless the situation will become stable only in 2023.
“We are at the worst time now. Every quarter of next year we will improve, but there will be no balance between supply and demand until 2023,” says Gelsinger, who adds that in the case of Intel the problems are not just related to the shortage of chips. but also of other fundamental components.
“We call them match sets, where we might have the CPU, but not the LCD or Wi-Fi. Data centers are particularly struggling with some of the power chips and some of the network or Ethernet chips.”
The estimate of the CEO of Intel coincides with that of Toshiba and partially with that of Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, who a few months ago had stated that the semiconductor crisis will continue throughout 2022, but with the first signs of recovery in the second. half of the year, thanks to the new production facilities.
For the uninitiated, the semiconductor crisis is the main reason why PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch OLED are hard to find in stores in recent months and GPU prices have skyrocketed.
